Thomas Armstrong
Chef/Owner and Operator
Louisiana native, Chef Thomas Armstrong, owner of Hartford’s New Orleans style Rajun Cajun Restaurant, is most recognized for his generosity to the greater Hartford Community. Thomas took his caring and giving show on the road along with several of his employees to New Orleans providing meals to the Victims of Hurricane Katrina.
Chef Thomas Armstrong, Owner of the Rajun Cajun, has been cooking since he was seven years old. He likes to joke about the fact that he came up north from New Orleans to be a consultant and “ drank the water in Hartford”.
His restaurant business began ten years ago on Park Street in Hartford and although he’s relocated, he is still in the Hartford community. When visiting Chef Armstrong’s restaurant, he’ll have you feeling completely comfortable with his warm smile and friendly personality.
Some of his specialties include his Pasta Big Mamou, Jambalaya, Crawfish Desire, Delta Crab Cakes and Gospel Soul Food Buffet, along with a variety of other New Orleans delights.
The Rajun Cajun’s food is best described as sinfully delicious. The fried chicken is coated in a continuously crunchy shell that breaks cleanly under your teeth and does not flake, all the better to enjoy the succulent meat underneath. The ribs are coated with barbecue sauce, which seems as if it were sent from heaven. The meat on the ribs slides so easily off the bone. The macaroni and cheese is gooey with melted cheese on top. With each bite you will hum a glorious hymn.
Last but not least, a true statement of Thomas giving back to the community is evident by the recognition he has received throughout the years. The following is few of those acknowledgements: Sister & Brother of new Generation, where he is the Drill Team Sponsor, Blue Hills Civic Association and the 2005 Summer Basketball Sponsor, Doolittle Elementary School in Cheshire, CT – Melting Pot Day, Neighborhood Legislation Reception at the State Capital Building, 2005 Hartford Hospital Breast Cancer Sponsor, Hartford Public Schools First Robotics Team Sponsor, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. Hartford Alumni Chapter – Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship Breakfast, 2001 Capital Community College – Award of Excellence, Hartford Chamber of Commerce – Region Vitality, Hartford Fund Drive Committee – Thanks 4 Giving Dinner, Community Service Award O.N.E. CHANE, Inc, and the Hartford Silhouse of Kappa Alpha Fraternity.
